After taking a few years off from ownership and managing a physiotherapy clinic, the creative spirits, passion and the energy to lead a new team of experienced physiotherapists under one roof to physio excellence has returned.
Being part of this great Chilliwack Community for over 28 years, he felt it was time to once more get actively involved in giving the Chilliwack community a place where they are treated as individuals with best-practice treatments techniques, and in a fun-loving atmosphere as people have been accustomed to in Remmert’s previous clinic.
Since May 2019, he is proud to announce the opening of FusionPhysio at Young Road in Chilliwack BC. A physiotherapy clinic, 100% locally owned, run by a physiotherapist for physiotherapists and their clients!
Remmert’s bottom line is the clients he cares for. He looks for team members that use their unique interests, training, strengths and relationships to create specialized niches of practice that better serve the community and energize their own careers. Remmert is convinced that a small, agile, and independently-owned clinic can hold its own and even raise the bar for the standard of rehabilitation care in a world where large healthcare corporations are becoming the norm. He feels this focus gives him the freedom to deliver the personal, individual-focused services that communities like Chilliwack value and seek.
Just 4 months after graduating from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands in 1989, Remmert was very determined to start a new life full of adventure in Canada. He immigrated to British Columbia in 1990.
After working for three years in the public healthcare system at Vancouver General and Chilliwack General hospitals, Remmert was ready to use his creative mind and business ambitions to start a community physiotherapy clinic. In partnership with Peter DeVette, he opened Fraser Valley Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre in March of 1993 Remmert’s longtime dream of setting up a rehabilitation centre where healthcare professionals gave clients the best care possible while working together in an interdisciplinary team had become a reality.
When the Fraser Valley Physio clinic moved into the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre in 2001, a wide variety of services were offered including physiotherapy, massage therapy, occupational therapy, acupuncture, specific rehab programs for WCB/ICBC clients, and clinical counselling.
For many years Fraser Valley Physio was the primary hub for the rehabilitation needs of the majority of Chilliwack’s citizens. Looking back, it seems Fraser Valley Physio was years ahead of the times. Now we see the BC government following an interdisciplinary model with plans to roll out several primary care centres in the communities over the next few years. They realize as Remmert did years ago, that collaborative healthcare works.
